So what is coaching?
In recent years,
organisations have found the need to adapt quickly to constant changes occurring
both locally & around the globe. Technology in particular has forced
organisations to do what they do faster, smarter, more economically & with
better quality. As a result, people too have to adapt to cope with these changes
to organisation & infrastructure. Many businesses today have embraced the
necessary organisational, structural & procedural change however many have not
addressed the impact such changes bring to bear on their most important asset –
their people!
Coaching is a
learning model or as many jargon lovers say today – a learning paradigm.
As organisations
identify the need to provide more support to their people, coaching has evolved
more widely. Coaching is increasingly becoming an integral part of any business.
Some organisations manage their own coaching programs in-house, where others
prefer to utilise an experienced external coach. Scarab National provide
coaching services to teams & individuals. We use a simple, easy to follow method
that gives you the ownership of your development during the program.
First, we meet
with you to discuss past, present & future responsibilities, your objectives &
goals. Next, we help you put plans in place to address identified development
needs to achieve your aspirations. Our interaction is a mix of personal
meetings, phone calls or net meetings.
Program success
lies with the coach & the coachee – setting mutually agreeable goals/actions &
ensuring the coachee stays on track to achieving these. Your coach from Scarab
National will be your guide, adviser & supporter during the program, but
ownership of success rests with the coachee. (Status reports are supplied
periodically to the key contact in your organisation, but specific details
regarding our relationship are not disclosed.)
So what are the
benefits to coaching?
From a business
viewpoint, coaching can vastly improve your return on investment (ROI) &
increase staff retention. Employees feel a great sense of being valued by their
employer and coaching makes a significant contribution to the development of
personnel within the organization.
On a personal
level, coaching can provide the coachee with clarity of direction. Coaching can
also assist in overcoming specific issues or challenges inside or outside the
workplace. Coaching provides a real-time & personal avenue for individuals or
teams to realize their full potential.
So in what
situations can coaching apply?
Coaching can be
applied to many situations both inside & outside the workplace. A good external
example is that of a sporting team. The coach can encourage, develop & support
the players, but when the game starts he can’t be on the field of play – it’s up
to the players to actually win.
It’s very
similar in the workplace, the coach can’t do the job, but he can assist the
various members of the team in realizing their goals with focused, experienced
guidance. Here’s just a few examples where coaching can be helpful in the
workplace:
Development of
executive personnel ? Career advancement or career transition ? Team development
(sales, service, etc.) ? Inducting new staff ? Major change leadership ?
Personal development within current role ? Speeches, presentations or
negotiations
We hope this
